Hello and welcome to our first blog. In future posts we will look at specific treatments, dental issues and news in more detail. For today’s blog though, as a way of introduction to our practice, we are going to take a brief look at several of the treatments that we offer our patients, both practical and cosmetic.
We are always interested to hear if there are any topics that you would like us to cover, but we hope to discuss most of the more common ones in the weeks and months to come.
Let us take a look then and what we can offer you.
We believe that dental care is important for all ages; from the very youngest, to the oldest. Regular check ups are important to monitor your oral health and to ensure that you receive any treatment in the most minimal way possible by treating problems early rather than waiting for them to become more serious.
Good oral health care starts at a very young age and we encourage our patients to bring their children from around their first birthday. Although any treatment is unlikely so young, it offers an opportunity for us to advise about looking after their teeth. It also helps young children to become accustomed to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental practice; something which can help them to avoid dental anxiety in the future.
While most people focus on their teeth when cleaning, it is equally important to make sure that the gums are clean too. Gum disease can not only cause unpleasant symptoms such as bleeding gums, soreness and inflammation and even bad breath, but can also lead to damage to the bone that the teeth are held in. This can cause teeth to become loose and wobbly, or even fall out. Our dental hygienists will carry out a professional clean and offer appropriate advice to help you avoid this.
Perhaps our most popular cosmetic dental treatment, this is a fast acting way to safely and effectively whiten your teeth. The treatment is custom made for you and allows you to whiten your teeth at home. Within a couple of weeks, you will have teeth that are whiter by several shades; something that teeth whitening toothpastes simply can’t do. Our Stourbridge dentists will be able to guide you through the process so that you attain the level of whiteness that you want.
We offer our under 18 patients a range of NHS orthodontic treatments, while our adult patients can take advantage of the Invisalign system which straightens your teeth in a very discreet manner using a series of trays that are made from impressions of your teeth. Each tray is worn for a short while before being replaced with the next in the series until your teeth are correctly aligned. The trays are transparent and also removable so that you can eat without the difficulties of food becoming trapped.
Porcelain veneers can be used for a number of purposes. One of these is for people whose teeth are badly stained or discoloured. While these might benefit from teeth whitening, this may only make limited improvements in the colour. Porcelain veneers are attached to the front of the teeth and enable you to have white teeth again at the level of whiteness that you want. They can also be used to restore teeth that have been chipped or cracked as well.
For a long time, dentures have been the most common way of replacing missing teeth. They have not been without their issues for some patients though as they can move around in the mouth and make eating certain foods very difficult. Unlike dentures, modern dental implants not only replace the crown part of the tooth (the part that shows above the gum line), but the root of the tooth also. This gives them an excellent level of strength and security. This excellent treatment is sometimes a little misunderstood and we will discuss it in much more detail in a future blog.
For patients who would like their skin to look and feel younger, we can now offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments to help you achieve this. By using anti wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers to plump up thinning lips etc, we can help rejuvenate your appearance using the skills and experience of our local facial aesthetics team.
The above is just a selection of the treatments that we offer our patients and, as noted above, we will discuss these in a lot more detail in future blogs. We hope that our first blog has given you a taste of what we can offer and, if you have any dental related questions at all, whether that be general, cosmetic or even if you are nervous about receiving dental care, please do talk to us.
